We had our last breakfast this morning at Old Weir Lodge before heading out to Galway. Today, it was predicting rain most of the day, but we were hoping the prediction might be wrong :-) We decided to drive to Galway via the Cliffs of Mohr just in case the rain didn't arrive. However, by the time we got to the Cliffs of Mohr, it was not only very foggy but raining hard, too. So today we are getting a good dose of Ireland's rainy weather.
We decided it didn't make any sense to stop and see the cliffs with the inclement weather, so we drove on to the little town of Doolin and stopped for lunch at a little cafe. Once again, we were pleasantly surprised at the great vegetarian options and other interesting lunch choices.
After lunch, several people did a little shopping at the woolen and traditional music shops, and then we climbed back into the car and headed the remainder of the way to Galway.
We saw lots of countryside and a few castles along the way.
We arrived in Galway and at our hostel (which is located right downtown) at about 5 pm. These three nights at the hostel will be quite a different experience that our nights at Old Weir Lodge where we were used to lots of space and privacy.
Mike found a restaurant called Cactus Jack that we decided to try tonight - we all had excellent meals. After dinner, we did a little exploring on Quay Street where there are lots of restaurants, bars, shops, music venues, etc. We headed back to our hostel and then a couple of people decided to go back out. That is one nice thing about being right downtown - each person can decide their own evening schedule.
